Activists call to end fossil extraction immediately

(4 Nov 2021) Dozens of climate youth activists staged a protest Thursday inside the venue of the U.N. climate summit in Glasgow, calling for immediate action to end the extraction of fossil fuels.
The activists posed for a group photo with their clothes and hands marked with large crosses.
The protest came as several major coal-using nations announced steps to wean themselves off coal.
"What they are doing is to pledge things which are for the future. We are here to demand for things to happen now," said Patience Nabukalu, a youth climate activist from Uganda.
The pledges to phase out coal came on top of other promises made at the COP26 conference that the head of an international energy organization said trimmed a few tenths of a degree from projections of future warming.
"Honestly by now, we've seen so many pledges and promises and targets being set, yet while we speak here, while negotiations are going on inside, the diggers keep digging," said Luisa Neubauer, a climate activist from Germany.
